Help Us Celebrate 100 Years of Hoffman!

As Hoffman approaches its 100th anniversary, we’re creating a video celebrating the people who helped shape our company.

We’re inviting longtime Hoffman employees and retirees to share stories in a short interview that will be filmed at Hoffman Headquarters in Black River Falls.

Hoffman’s involvement in the community

Hoffman Construction has always been proud to be part of the Black River Falls community. Throughout the years, we have enjoyed supporting local organizations, skateparks, ponds, community locations, and initiatives that help strengthen the place we call home in Black River Falls.

A Treat for Our HCC Crews!

As a THANK-YOU for all the hard work our crews have put in this season, we’ve been bringing the Weenie Mobile food truck to several Hoffman job sites for a lunch treat! It’s our way of showing appreciation for the dedication, teamwork, and long hours that keep our projects moving forward.

These photos were taken during the Weenie Mobile’s visit to the Brackett project. Be sure to keep an eye out, as the food truck will be stopping at your jobsite soon!

WTBA Networking opportunity

Hoffman leaders recently participated in the WTBA Golf Outing, an annual fundraiser supporting the Wisconsin Transportation Builders Association.

More than just a day on the course, the event brings together industry leaders to discuss transportation funding, legislative priorities, and the future of road construction in Wisconsin. Hoffman’s continued involvement with WTBA helps ensure our industry has a strong voice and supports the work we do every day.

The Zipper Machine

The concrete barrier zipper machine is a specialized piece of equipment designed to quickly and safely shift connected concrete barriers, allowing traffic patterns to be adjusted without manually moving each barrier section.

By relocating an entire line of barriers in a single pass, the machine improves worker safety, reduces traffic congestion, and helps keep vehicles moving efficiently through active construction zones.

Hoffman utilized the Zipper machine on the Wayzata project, where it played a key role in SAFELY managing traffic while crews continued construction.

The History of Roads

The History of Roads: Connecting Communities Through Time

Every journey begins with a road. Whether it’s a bustling interstate, a city street, or a quiet rural lane, roads have served as the foundation of transportation, commerce, and community development for thousands of years. Their evolution mirrors the growth of civilization itself.

The Earliest Pathways

Long before engineered highways existed, humans and animals created natural trails by repeatedly traveling the same routes. These early paths connected hunting grounds, water sources, and settlements, allowing communities to interact and trade. As populations expanded, so did the need for more reliable transportation routes.

Ancient Innovations

The first engineered roads emerged in ancient Mesopotamia around 4000 BCE, where builders used stone and baked bricks to improve travel between cities. The Egyptians later developed roads to transport materials for monumental projects, including the construction of the pyramids. Perhaps the most famous road builders of the ancient world were the Romans. Roman engineers revolutionized transportation by creating durable roads built from multiple layers of stone, gravel, and sand. Their extensive network connected vast regions of the empire and set standards for road construction that influenced generations to come.

The Automobile Era

The arrival of the automobile in the late 19th and early 20th centuries transformed transportation once again. As vehicle ownership increased, governments invested heavily in modern road infrastructure to accommodate growing traffic demands. In the United States, the Interstate Highway System, launched in the 1950s, became one of the most significant public works projects in history. By linking cities and regions across the nation, it fueled economic growth, improved mobility, and reshaped how Americans lived and worked.

Roads of Today—and Tomorrow

Modern roads are remarkable feats of engineering, incorporating advanced materials, enhanced safety features, and intelligent traffic management systems. They support everything from daily commutes to the movement of goods that power the global economy. Looking ahead, transportation infrastructure continues to evolve. Innovations such as smart roads, electric vehicle charging networks, and autonomous vehicle technology promise to redefine how future generations travel and connect.

A Legacy of Progress

From simple dirt trails to sophisticated highway systems, roads have played a vital role in shaping human history. They have connected communities, supported economic development, and enabled exploration and innovation. As technology advances, roads will continue to serve as essential pathways that bring people, ideas, and opportunities together.
Every mile tells a story—and the journey is far from over.

Independence day hats!

We hope everyone had a wonderful time celebrating America’s 250th Independence Day!

To mark this historic milestone, we stopped at Hoffman jobsites and handed out a commemorative hat featuring a custom design created exclusively for Hoffman Construction. We hope you’ll wear it with pride throughout the year and for more to come!

Thank you for representing Hoffman both on and off the jobsite, and we hope you had a safe and enjoyable holiday with family and friends.

Touch a truck event

Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s Touch a Truck event a success! It was a great day with an incredible turnout, and we loved seeing so many families and community members stop by to explore our equipment and meet the Hoffman team!
