SAFETY INSIGHT FROM JASON IVERS

Hello Hoffman Team,

Safety should always be the top priority when performing any task, whether on the job or at home.

When approaching every task, it is important to discuss the operation and what hazards might be involved or arise during the task.

During an excavation, the first question all workers involved should ask is, “Do I have a good diggers hotline ticket?” and “What utilities are marked in the area we need to work in?” Once those hazards are identified, if other safety measures are needed, we should ask and wait for them before we do an unsafe act.

Some of these items might be trench boxes, pothole machines, or different types of equipment.

We want every team member to know that it is okay and to “if you see something, say something” regarding safety. We are all on-site working together to get a job done, and we want to ensure that the job doesn’t hurt one of our team members.

Another phrase that I have heard discussed regarding safety is “Don’t be a fool; use the proper tool. ” This statement goes a long way in encouraging everyone to use the right tool because most accidents happen when things are rushed, and the wrong tool is used.

“Our company is our people.” We have many great team members here at Hoffman who work long hours together to get the job done. At the end of the day, we want to see everyone return home safe and healthy to enjoy their personal time away from work.

Safety first, always!

PROJECT UPDATES

MANKATO, MN

The Mankato Distribution Center project continues to move forward with steady momentum. The crew has shown outstanding adaptability and commitment despite winter weather challenges, design updates, and ongoing utility coordination.

Progress highlights include importing over 600,000 tons of sand and aggregate, exporting 340,000 cubic yards, and installing thousands of linear feet of storm and roof drains.

Superintendent Troy Prochaska has kept the team informed and focused. Greg Reiland brings energy to every task, and Foreman Steve Whipps expertly manages trucking and GPS fieldwork.

The team also recently led an excavation safety stand-down with subcontractors, reinforcing safe practices and leadership.

BRACKETT, WI

The second year of the Brackett project is coming along nicely. Led by Superintendent Tim Roesler, the crew has been busy removing pavement, grading out the new roadway, and crushing old concrete and asphalt into the new base course.

The project consists of reconstructing 8 miles of WB I-94 between Eau Claire and Foster. Two new bridge structures and one new box culvert are part of the work. One bridge deck is set to be poured the first week of June and is already coming along nicely.

The roadway will get new concrete in the whole direction that will start in mid-July. The goal for this year is to complete all of WB by early October so that the temporary median road down the middle of I-94 can be shifted to the WB side to prepare it for traffic in the spring. Next year, we must reconstruct all 8 miles of Eastbound I-94 and remove the temporary roadway.

Thanks for all the hard work, Tim and the crew!
