NOVEMBER 2024 NEWSLETTER
CHRIS GOSS
PRESIDENT
Our 2024 construction season is coming to an end quickly. We’ve completed work from Milwaukee to Washburn to East Grand Forks to Mankato to Lone Rock and many places in between.
Being SAFE isn’t just a goal for us; it’s expected, that it is how we operate. We had a SAFE year in which we took care of our teammates. Yeah, I know, we didn’t achieve our goal of ZERO teammate incidents, but we had a darn good year. Thanks for taking care of our folks!
The weather is always a factor for us. It was a tale of two halves of the season. We had the first half of the season, which dealt us a hand with above-normal precipitation and the challenges of production and schedule that come with it.
The second half of the season handed us some very desirable weather into November. We took both halves in stride and delivered our projects on time with good results. Great work!
Our work requires sacrifices that come with hard work, including long days and weeks and working away from home. Thanks for signing up for that work and being a part of the Hoffman team.
Thank you, it is appreciated!
A Message from Shawn Helmer
Director of Safety
It’s hard to believe it’s Thanksgiving next week. As I look back on the construction season, it was a very safe one.
The weather presented its challenges. It was one of the wettest springs we have had in quite some time, but we persevered. All of our crews played a part in ensuring we sent our people home every day in good condition, if not better condition at the end of the day, albeit probably a little more tired.
Our projects extended from the north to East Grand Forks, MN., to the west in Mankato, MN, to the east in Glendale, WI, to the south in Lone Rock, WI, and multiple locations in between. Year-to-date through October, we have accumulated a significant number of hours worked.
We’ve had zero lost time incidents, a fantastic achievement by everyone! We had two OSHA Recordable incidents for the year, outperforming our industrial class code average by nearly a whole point.
While the goal for this metric is zero OSHA recordable injuries, the result is very commendable. This translates to an overall safe and productive year. Everybody put in long hours on our projects this past season. I got to see
first-hand when it comes to being engaged with workplace safety and genuinely looking out for your co-workers.
You’re an AMAZING group of people who prove we can have a safe workplace in a potentially dangerous environment – construction work zones.
I want to thank everyone for their individual and collective contributions to running safe projects this year. Let’s finish the season strong and, most importantly, injury—and incident-free!

Brutus and the 2-Inch Shot:
A Hunt to Remember
I had not viewed Brutus (Deer) before as I’m an old-school hunter who does not use trail cameras. Thus, when Brutus arrived for a scent wick, it was a pleasant surprise to view him, to say the least.
However, complications quickly arose as other Deer were in the area, and sure enough, when I had the opportunity to take a shot, Brutus was directly behind an Antlerless Deer while slightly up a grade, so I had 2 “of clearance to guide my arrow over said Deer.
In any event, my shot cleared, and fortunately, I observed my game harvest topple on a nearby hillside. Appreciation of the great outdoors arises when our hobbies take us to places where creatures like Whitetail thrive. Say, will safe hunting be good for our Souls?
