As we bid farewell to Sally Malecki, who retired from Hoffman Construction on December 31st, 2024, we reflect on the immense impact she had on our company and the lasting relationships she forged during her 24-and-a-half years of service.
Sally’s journey with Hoffman Construction Company began on July 5th, 2000, when she was hired as a contract specialist. Over the years, Sally not only excelled in her role but also stepped up to train new contract specialists, eventually earning the title of Lead Contract Specialist. She was a constant source of knowledge, support, and guidance for her team, and her dedication to her work and colleagues was truly remarkable.
When asked about her favorite memories from her time at Hoffman Construction, Sally fondly recalled the friendships she made and the laughter she shared with her colleagues. “My favorite memory will always be the friends I have made here,” she said. “The jokes we all pulled on one another, trying to figure out who did it. We had after-work get-togethers and lots of laughs. Though my dear friend Jackie is no longer with us, I still hear her laugh as it radiates down the hall.” For Sally, it wasn’t just about the work—it was the people she worked with that made her time at Hoffman so special. Even though many co-workers have moved on, Sally remains connected with them, keeping in touch and catching up on the latest happenings at the office.
Sally deeply values the relationships she built with the truckers she worked alongside—a connection she says she will miss deeply. “Truckers are hard-working people, and they love to work for Hoffman Construction. If you treat them well, help them every chance you get, and go above and beyond what’s expected, they will do the same in return. It is a win-win situation.”
When news of her retirement spread, she was deeply moved by the outpouring of support and appreciation from the truckers. “The phone calls, emails, and letters I received from my truckers when they heard I was retiring were overwhelming,” she said. “Truckers know everything that goes on in the field, good or bad, and they know it before I ever do.” Her connection with them will be one of the things she will miss most.
As for how Sally hopes her time at Hoffman Construction will be remembered, she said, “I hope I’m remembered as always trying to do my best. That it’s okay to work harder and not take the easy route.” Sally’s dedication to her work ethic, her colleagues, and the company inspired us all. She exemplified the values of hard work and integrity, setting an example for others to follow.
Looking ahead, Sally is excited for the next chapter of her life. “I’m looking forward to finding a hobby or two, reconnecting with family more often, and staying in contact with my former co-workers and friends,” she said. While she joked about trying Facebook, Sally is eager to enjoy a well-deserved retirement and spend more time with her loved ones.
Throughout her career at Hoffman Construction, Sally has been more than just an employee—she has been part of our family. Her contributions to Hoffman and the relationships she built with her colleagues, truckers, and everyone she worked with have left a lasting legacy. We are grateful for Sally’s dedication, unwavering work ethic, and friendship.
Sally, thank you for your dedication and impact. Wishing you all the best in this next chapter—you will be truly missed.
