At Hoffman Construction, safety is not just a policy; it’s a deeply held value that shapes every decision we make on the job. From our project managers to our field crews, we understand that creating a safe work environment takes more than compliance; it takes courage.
That’s the driving force behind our new Badge of Courage safety initiative.
The Badge of Courage program was created to recognize and encourage the bold, everyday actions that keep our people safe. It honors those who choose to speak up, step in, or stop work because doing the right thing isn’t always easy, but it’s always necessary.

“Putting safety first takes courage. It means looking out for your coworkers, trusting your instincts, and sometimes making tough calls. This program is about showing that those decisions are respected, supported, and valued across our company.” Chris Goss, President of
Hoffman Construction.
A Commitment That’s Seen and Shared
Employees who take the Badge of Courage pledge commit to four courageous actions:
● Speaking up and stopping work when something is unsafe
● Stopping work, at home or on the job, if conditions are dangerous
● Addressing safety concerns with supervisors without fear of backlash
● Putting safety first—above all else
Those who make the pledge receive a Badge of Courage certificate and a badge to wear on their safety vest, a visible reminder of their personal commitment and a symbol of the broader safety culture that defines our team.
“Safety is everyone’s responsibility, but leadership in safety comes from individuals who are willing to take a stand. We want to spotlight that leadership and let our team members know: we’ve got your back when you make the right call.” Shawn Helmer, Director of Safety
More Than a Program—It’s a Mindset
The Badge of Courage isn’t just about recognition. It’s about reinforcing a shared belief that every person has the right and responsibility to return home safe each day. It’s about creating a culture where courage and care go hand in hand.
